This is a three-week project for representatives from the judicial and law enforcement fields to learn about the importance of whistleblowing and whistleblower protection, as well as organizational culture in the U.S.’s federal, state, and municipal judicial systems. This project was constructed with an emphasis on the impact of the separation of powers, checks and balances, anticorruption, and human rights protections.
Armenia deals with some relatively severe restrictions in terms of journalistic freedom according the Freedom House’s Freedom in the World 2017 report. Armenia is also involved in an “on-and-off” armed conflict with its neighbor, Azerbaijan. This lends even more weight to the actions of potential whistleblowers within and surrounding the military because of their ability to report human rights abuses, corruption, and war crime – things which occur at higher frequencies during armed conflicts.
