Expanding Access to Care for Marginalized Populations: A Multi-Regional Project for Health

February 12-16, 2017

About the Delegation

This project is for 18 visitors from 18 countries that span the globe. The program will address the specific public health challenges and needs of marginalized and underserved populations in order to promote global healthcare. Meetings will highlight efforts to protect citizens from preventable health threats by promoting wellness programs, disease prevention activities, and preventive healthcare services. Strategies for de-stigmatization of health problems among general populations will also be discussed. The project will examine the U.S. health care system, research, theory, and practical treatment of illnesses that disproportionately afflict marginalized populations. Additionally, participants will explore training and professional development programs for doctors and support networks addressing marginalized populations.

To Illustrate cutting edge urban and rural health care strategies and programs - including innovative accessibility approaches, community outreach strategies, immunization projects, and mental and physical health and wellness programs – the delegation will be introduced to the creative ways hospitals and schools are using telehealth technologies to improve emergency response times in Jacksonville, FL and increase access to health care in rural Georgia.
