CISV Jacksonville is looking for a boy and a girl to complete their Interchange group with Brazil, age 12-13. A 14 year old boy is also needed to for the Summer Camp program.

CISV Jacksonville program descriptions:
Summer Camp:

Building Leadership Skills
Aimed by young teens, the Summer Camp encourages participants to take responsibility for leadership and program planning. Each summer camp focuses on a specific educational theme. Participants work together to plan activities and discussions which build on the chosen theme.

•	Age: 14 – 15
•	Duration: 21 days
•	Size of group: Delegations come from 6 or 9 countries and are comprised of 4 – 6 youths, equally divided between girls and boys, who are accompanied by an adult Leader (age 21+). The Camp is coordinated by a Staff and Director.

Interchange Program:

Building Intercultural Competence
While based on the same educational principles as CISV’s camp-based programs, Interchange encourages a deeper encounter between two cultures by placing young people within families. Group activities such as mini-camp are vital in complementing intense in-depth family experience. Interchange takes places in two phases with one delegation visiting another country and then reciprocating by hosting the delegation from the country they visited. Not only is this a profound intercultural experience for the youth participant, but it also engages the whole family and potentially the community in which they live, in the CISV experience.

•	Age: 12 – 15
•	Duration: 14-28 days per phase (phases can be consecutive or take place up to a year apart)
•	Size of Group: Delegations come from 2 countries and comprise 6 – 12 youth accompanied by and adult Leader (age 21+).

Contact Lisa Taylor (ltaylorcisv@gmail.com) or Theresa Cardoza Rasheed (theresacardoza@gmail.com) if you are interested in applying. For information and application click on the program you are interested it below.

Kate Hurlburt, Ponte Vedra Beach resident and student at Ponte Vedra High School, was selected to participate in the National Council for International Visitors (NCIV) Citizen Diplomacy Program for Emerging Leaders. Kate is one of 13 students ages 17 to 24 who will participate in NCIV’s National Meeting, February 15-18, in Washington, D.C.

The NCIV Citizen Diplomacy Program for Emerging Leaders has a dual purpose—to help educate U.S. students about global affairs and to help prepare future leaders within the NCIV network. The program was launched at the NCIV 2011 National Meeting as part of the organization’s 50th Anniversary celebration and is designed to help build the next generation of citizen diplomats – people of all backgrounds and abilities actively engaged in helping shape U.S. foreign relations “one handshake at a time.” GlobalJax is a member of the NCIV network, and proudly nominated Kate.

Students are assigned mentors who help them participate fully in the NCIV National Meeting program. As a follow up to their participation, the Emerging Leaders are required to prepare a classroom presentation on their experience, make a presentation at an event hosted by their local CIV, and submit a 500 word essay to NCIV summarizing their experience.

“This program will help instill in the next generation of young leaders the importance of international relations, and of being an engaged global citizen,” said Mark Rebstock, Interim President of NCIV. “It is also an important dimension of our efforts to develop strong, multi-generational leadership for NCIV.”

“GlobalJax is proud to be a part of the NCIV network, and to have this opportunity to sponsor and mentor a local student through the process as a new generation of leaders is cultivated,” said Sondie Frus, GlobalJax Executive Director.

Funding for the 2012 NCIV Citizen Diplomacy Program for Emerging Leaders was received from Federal Express, Mitsubishi Electric America Foundation, and National Capital Bank, along with contributions from NCIV members and individual donors.
